Juan Diego Florez in another of his great stage roles. Old Don Pasquale (Ruggero Raimondi) wishes to marry and produce an heir, thus disinheriting his nephew Ernesto, who loves the merry widow Norina. Pasquale"s physician Malatesta pretends that Norina is his sister 'Sofronia', and arranges a mock wedding to Pasquale. 'Sofronia' then proceeds to make Pasquale's life a misery.

First performed in Paris in 1843, at the turning point of several eras, Don Pasquale, a composite and varied work, is the apotheosis of opera buffa. Performed for the first time at the Paris Opera, the production has been entrusted to the Italian director, Damiano Michieletto, who transports us directly to the sincerity and dramatic splendour at the heart of an apparently light‑hearted work.

Whoever does not yet know Gaetano Donizetti's Don Pasquale will learn to love it with this elegant and stylish production by Stefano Vizioli. Lovers of this opera will be enthralled by Eva Mei's high, clear voice as well as Alessandro Corbelli's and her touching performances. Gérard Korsten conducts the orchestra of the Teatro Lirico and proves that Donizetti's spritely music gives room for fascinating interpretations. The opera tells the story of an elderly dandy, who is thoroughly cured from his desire to get married and thus hands over his young lady to her actual lover a tale as old as comedy itself. Donizetti however, being the master of cryptic comedy, extends this traditional "buffa" subject matter to a character comedy. His characters are not merely archetypes; they develop their individual profile throughout the differentiated and diversified plot. This work shines with musical wit, expressed in numerous coloraturas, cavatinas and duets.

The witty story of a middle-aged man whose supposed young wife runs rings around him – with her own ulterior romantic purpose in mind – has long delighted and surprised audiences, not least as presented with the sparkle of its music and the virtuoso skill of its performers. Damiano Michieletto’s exhilarating production shows how contemporary the characters still are and how immediate and touching the story remains.

Comedian Joe Pasquale attempts to survive alone in Guyana's vast rainforest. It's the wet season and torrential rains make survival difficult as Joe struggles to make fire and find food. In 90 percent humidity and crushing heat Joe builds a shelter and chops down two massive palm trees in a bid to get to the edible palm hearts at very top. But when the palms get trapped high up in the jungle canopy, Joe is reduced to eating maggots. After days of starvation rations, and losing his way in the jungle, Joe finally finds food. After surviving 6 days alone, Joe tears down camp and prepares to head back to civilization. He reflects that the experience is the most difficult thing he's ever done but acknowledges that to survive alone in the wild mental determination is even more important than physical endurance.

Don, a rich twelve-year-old, is kicked out of school. He is send to another school where he has difficulties fitting in.
